2-DAYS KAYAKING TOUR IN THE ARCHIPELAGO

The self-guided kayak tour is a fantastic nature experience in Åland’s northern archipelago. Here you move along red granite cliffs towards the Bothnian Sea’s most open and barren archipelago with a rich birdlife, among Stormskärs Maja’s islands and in the archipelago of the amazing Boxö nature reserve.
The tour includes an overnight stay in a cozy traditional archipelago cabin or in a glamping tent with a comfortable double bed in the middle of Boxö Nature Reserve. At the shore, there is a sauna for a refreshing sauna bath and a dip in the bay’s clear water.
On the self-guided kayak tour, we help plan the route based on your experiences, prevailing weather conditions, and what you are most interested in experiencing.
For safety reasons, we assume that at least one person in the group knows and has experience kayaking in open water.
Self-guided kayaking tours are available from June to August. If you require transportation to and from Hamnsundet, a fee will be added to the tour price based on prior agreement. To make a booking, please contact us by emailing steivi@alandtours.com or calling +358 (0)40 040 5933.
DAY 1
We pick you up from the hotel, your accommodation, or the ferry terminal at the agreed time for transport to Hamnsundet, but it is also fine if you want to get to Hamnsundet on your own.
The tour starts at Hamnsundet. There we go through the archipelago map together, which shows you places worth visiting. We go through the equipment that we provide, which you can then pack into the kayak together with your own equipment and today’s lunch box. Before departure, you order tonight’s dinner and tomorrow’s breakfast and lunch. Dinner is delivered to your accommodation after the day’s paddling and other goals as agreed.
After a safety briefing, you can paddle out towards the Norra Åland archipelago for 2 days of magnificent nature experience. If you have other packing, we can take care of it according to an agreement.\At the end of the day, you arrive in Boxö, where dinner and a sauna await, as well as a freshly made bed in the cabin “Glasbergsboden” for your Glamping tent.
DAY 2
The morning breakfast is delivered to you and can be enjoyed at the same time as the morning sun rises from the sea. You get the lunch box that you take with you on today’s tour. Now all you have to do is slide out into the bay on today’s kayak tour and find new fantastic places to explore in the archipelago.
There is also the option of choosing to do an island hike in Boxö Nature Reserve and explore the Boxö cave, Boxö fortification ruins from the First World War and enjoy the view from Rövarberget out over the Bothnian Sea.
At the end of the day, you arrive at Hamnsundet and we take care of the kayak and equipment. According to the agreement, we will take you back to your accommodation or another place you decide.
Extra days can be booked separately by agreement.
WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU BRING
Clothes to paddle in (regular workout clothes work fine, not jeans or cotton)
At least one complete, waterproofly packed, change of clothes
Thermal underwear if you feel cold
Swimwear and towel
Wind/waterproof jacket
Water-resistant shoes (preferably some that are a little smaller and flexible as it can feel cramped in the kayak)
Cap, sunglasses, sunscreen
Water bottle and thermos
Warm clothes for the evening
Waterproof bags to pack the clothes in (plastic bags often work well)

We strongly recommended all travelers purchase adequate cancellation insurance, and travel insurance for participation in any of Åland Tours tours and/or expeditions.
YOUR ASSUMPTION OF RISK
It is travelers’ responsibility to ensure your fitness level is appropriate for the activities and tours you book with us.
GENERAL
For safety reasons, Åland Tours reserves the right to cancel tours in bad or stormy weather.
DEPOSIT & FINAL PAYMENT
After confirming your satisfaction with the itinerary, we will request a non-refundable deposit of 20% of the total quoted tour price to secure your booking. The remaining balance must be paid in full at least 14 days prior to the first service date.
CANCELLATION
The tour is considered confirmed when we have received a deposit or part deposit. After this point the following cancellation fees apply:
More than 14 days prior to departure – Full refund except for the 20% deposit
From 5 to 14 days prior to departure – Refund up to 50% of the total price
Less than 5 days prior to departure – No refund
